Arizona: Fingerprinting for Speeding Tickets Maricopa County, Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio will now demand fingerprints from any motorist stopped for a routine traffic violation in his 9000 square mile territory. The fingerprints will be entered into the Automated Fingerprint Identification System. During an eight month voluntary test of the program, two-thirds of motorists refused to provide thumbprints, but as of Wednesday, Arpaio is no longer accepting "no" for an answer."This will be mandatory. No exceptions," Arpaio said, as reported in the Arizona Republic. "If they don't want to give the print, they're going directly to jail. Period."

STAUNTON Virginia - The signs say the speed limit is 25, but recent studies show that more than 600 cars a day beat it down Donaghe Street at speeds considerably faster than that.
Traffic volume has doubled to 5,000 cars a day since the city declared Donaghe a "dangerous" street in 1983. After his wife's car was totaled by a speeding driver last year, Crawford did some research and took his case to the city."

TAMPA -- Hillsborough's finest are on track to write more than 300,000 traffic tickets this year, an unprecedented amount that has helped boost court revenue by more than $31 million, officials say.
The amount is so high, in fact, that Hillsborough County will have to skim off $5 million for those counties across the state that could not cover their court budgets, said Pat Frank, Hillsborough's clerk of the circuit court.

The Hillsborough County court system stands to make millions of dollars because deputies wrote 300,000 traffic tickets this year.The increase helped boost court revenue by more than $31 million.However, the county won't get to see all that money because it has to skim off $5 million for the counties across the state that could not cover their court budgets.Pinellas is one of the counties on the receiving end of the deal.
