Tips on beating a speeding ticket in Connecticutt

WFSB Tips on beating a speeding ticket
HARTFORD -- It's a situation many people have been in; driving down the road and looking in the rearview mirror to see flashing lights come on.
Both our experts agree that as soon as you see flashing lights, you need to slow down, find somewhere safe to stop, keep your hands in plain sight, and at night flip on your dome light.
"He'll think, oh, this guy cares about my safety and that will set the tone to chat with him, to talk your way out of it," said Wallace. "Never admit your speed, even if you're doing 1 or 2 over. Why? because it will be used later against you in court.

New Radar Trailers Deter Speeding-San Leandro Police Department has recently acquired two new radar trailers to help drivers snap back to reality

New Radar Trailers Deter Speeding
By : Amy Sylvestri : 2/23/06

Say you're cruising along a residential street in your car with the windows down and the radio up on an unseasonably warm afternoon and you chance a glance down at your speedometer: What does it say? 40 miles per hour? 50? That can't be right, can it? Well, hit the brakes because the San Leandro Police Department has recently acquired two new radar trailers to help drivers snap back to reality.

One of the new radar trailers is currently in front of the San Leandro Police Department at 901 East 14th Street.

Radar units use a sensor line draped across the road to determine a vehicles actual speed, while boldly posting the legal speed limit on that particular stretch of road.

But the dramatic flashing lights arent all for show.

We find these trailers very useful in helping drivers, said Lieutenant Pete Ballew, a traffic administrator with the San Leandro Police Department. Just as a driver will hit his brakes or check his speedometer when he sees a police officer on the road, hell also slow down when he sees his speed flash up on a trailer.

Currently, one of the brand new trailers is located directly in front of the San Leandro Police Department at 901 East 14th Street, but the locations of the units will change on a regular basis. Placement will be determined by various traffic factors.

Often, the trailers will be located in areas selected by city traffic engineers as being most effective, but residents concerned with violations in their neighborhoods may request that a unit be deployed by contacting the San Lean

WCJB - TV20 News - Your Home Team - Gainesville - Lake City - Ocala: "Double DUI Arrests
2/16/2006

By Michelle Brown/WCJB TV 20 News
Its a effort to curb drinking and driving at the University of Florida. The number of DUI arrests on campus more than doubled from 2004 to 2005. One reason is because University Police officers set up their first campus DUI check point last year. 111 people were arrested in 2005. That's compared to 44 arrests in 2004. A police spokesperson says the increase is partly because of President Machen's crackdown on drinking, something new UPD Chief Linda stump also feels strongly about.
Lt. Joe Sharkey says, 'She came to our agency with a very pro-active stance on alcohol enforcement.'
Police plan to set up check points at UF every few months. Besides criminal charges, any student caught drinking and driving can also be suspended from school. "
