NORTH BRUNSWICK, N.J. -- Slow and steady -- and poor gas mileage -- ruled the day when North Brunswick police captured a speeding Lamborghini.
An officer gave chase after clocking the 2006 V-10 Gallardo going 85 mph Tuesday on Route 1. The sports car pulled away as the officer's Ford Crown Victoria patrol car reached 100 mph. The officer broke off the chase and broadcast a description of the car with Massachusetts license plates ...

DON'T SPEED THROUGH MY TOWN - Colorado
DON'T SPEED THROUGH MY TOWN'
“I know you want to go hit that fresh powder, but you aren’t going to make it if you have an accident,” Gottschalk told the Wolferses.
But the chief let them off with a warning.
It’s part of a new approach in some mountain towns with reputations as merciless speed traps that prey on skiers, hikers and campers to fatten the town coffers.
Such towns have no bypasses. Drivers who were flying past wide-open alpine landscapes at 65 mph must slow to 25 or 30, though the speed limits are well-marked.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. : ‘For speed trap’ note on check angers mayor
Comment riles leader of town that gets 30 percent of revenue from tickets

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - After motorist T. Allen Morgan got a speeding ticket in Coopertown — a town known for its heavy-handed traffic enforcement — he tried to pay his ticket like a good citizen.
But he added a little note on his check that angered Mayor Danny Crosby. The mayor refused to accept the check, sparking the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation to launch an investigation Monday.
Crosby told Morgan that he had to either write another check that didn't have the words "for speed trap" written in bold letters or face the charges in traffic court.
At the request of District Attorney General John Carney, the TBI is investigating if Crosby acted illegally by denying Morgan's payment, TBI spokeswoman Jennifer Johnson said.
"As mayor of this city, if I accept that check from that gentleman, I'm admitting we run a speed trap, and that's a bald-faced lie," Crosby said Tuesday.
Coopertown lies about 20 miles northwest of Nashville on a state highway used by motorists to travel between interstates 24 and 65. The town generates nearly 30 percent of its revenue from traffic tickets.
Last month AAA officials said the automobile association was considering adding Coopertown to its list of national "strict enforcement areas," an honor shared by only seven other cities.

Florida Highway Patrol to Step Up Speeding Patrols | theledger.com
FHP to Step Up Speeding Patrols
Drivers will see more state troopers patrolling Florida's highways through today in an attempt to curtail speeders, officials said.
Troopers on motorcycles and in unmarked patrol cars will track speeders using radar and video cameras. They will also patrol from the air, spotting speeders from planes and sending grounded troopers their way. And troopers will look for motorists who don't move over or slow down for patrol cars that have stopped on the shoulder or median and have their lights flashing.
